Proverbs 30:27: The locusts have no king, yet they all advance in ranks.

Insight

The locust is a creature of destruction. Joel had a great deal to say about the locust plagues. We find locusts again in the Book of Revelation. “The locusts have no king.” They have no visible head or leader, yet they go forth like soldiers in their respective regiments. They move so methodically that they seem to be acting under definite instructions and strict discipline. Christians have a Leader. Christ is the unseen Head of the church. Not only is Christ the Head of all who have been redeemed by the blood of Christ, but the Holy Spirit is indwelling every believer, welding us together in one great family. This is what the locust is teaching us. 1

Application

For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Romans 12:4–5

Do you live your life out under the Lordship of Jesus Christ? The church is not made up of a multitude of independent Christians. The church is a family of dependent believers, depending upon Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. A solo believer is selfish believer, because we were redeemed to be members in one body. There is a full blessing when we are fully surrendered to do His will, His way.

Motivation

And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. Ephesians 1:22–23

Be a fruitful member of the Body of Christ, by fulfilling your calling in Christ. – TWEET IT

Prayer

Father, please keep me committed to serving others, and not myself.
