Revelation 3:3: Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you.

Jesus and His Word

They were exhorted to wake up from their spiritual slumber and to strengthen the few evidences of life they still had. He exhorted them to remember … obey … and repent. He warned them that if they did not heed this exhortation, He would come on them like a thief, that is, suddenly and unexpectedly. 1

Jesus and His Ways

  • Jesus, please teach me to take heed to Your word. I want to be diligent, to know Your biblical truth, and not be known as a Christian drifter. – “We must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.” Hebrews 2:1
  • Jesus, please teach me to yield to the stirring convictions of Your Holy Spirit. I want to be doing the things that will give You glory today, and glorify You on the day of Your certain return. – “Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you.” 2 Peter 1:13
  • Jesus, please teach me to live as though today was my last opportunity to make You known to my family and friends. I want to walk, every step, in fellowship with You. – “If the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.” Luke 12:39

Jesus and His Promise

“But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.” 1 Thessalonians 5:4–6
