Revelation 3:4: You have a few names even in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white, for they are worthy.

Jesus and His Word

What was different about this dedicated remnant? They had not defiled their garments. There is some evidence from antiquity that temple worshipers were not permitted to approach their gods and goddesses wearing dirty garments. The remnant in the church at Sardis had not compromised with the pagan society around them, nor had they grown comfortable and complacent. It was this devoted spiritual remnant that honored Jesus and held the future of the church’s ministry. 1

Jesus and His Ways

  • Jesus, please teach me how to honor You with my treasures. – “Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase.” Proverbs 3:9
  • Jesus, please teach me how to honor You with my talent. – “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” Romans 12:1
  • Jesus, please teach me how to honor You with my time. – “For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” 1 Corinthians 6:20
