Proverbs #:#: My son, keep my words, and treasure my commands within you. Keep my commands and live, and my law as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; Write them on the tablet of your heart.

Insight

For the third time, Solomon calls the young person back to the Word of God, because keeping God’s commandments is a matter of life or death. The familiar phrase “apple of your eye” (v. 2) refers to the pupil of the eye which the ancients thought was a sphere like an apple. We protect our eyes because they’re valuable to us, and so should we honor and protect God’s Word by obeying it. Sexual sin often begins with undisciplined eyes and hands (Matt. 5:27–30), but the heart of the problem is … the heart (Prov. 7:2–3). If we love God’s wisdom as we love those in our family, we wouldn’t want to visit the house of the harlot. 1

Application

Life is not so much about where you have been, but rather where are you headed. Evaluate your life and your walk with God. Are you enjoying His treasures, and are your trusting Him for everything? Or are you living far too independent of Him?

Motivation

But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience. Luke 8:15

To walk away from God’s word is to walk away from all the treasures He has for your soul. – TWEET IT

Prayer

Father, whatever it takes, cause me to always hunger and thirst for You.
