Proverbs 28:27: He who gives to the poor will not lack, but he who hides his eyes will have many curses.

Insight

Being generous to the poor (“destitute, hungry”) does not mean the giver will then have to “do without.” Just the opposite is true; he will lack nothing. Generosity is rewarded. However, a person who ignores the needs of the poor receives … curses from them. 1

Application

But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. Hebrews 13:16

Consider doing the things that please the Lord. The motive behind giving freely to others is not to make me feel good, or to try to erase my own guilt, or to impress others. Giving is a practical way to represents the heart of Jesus to others. The Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons always give us a perfect opportunity to consider the needs of others and to do something about it. However, lets learn to have more than seasonal love towards others.

Motivation

The generous soul will be made rich, and he who waters will also be watered himself. Proverbs 11:25

A giving heart is a revealing heart, because it reflects the love of Jesus. – TWEET IT

Prayer

Father, thank You for Your generous love that forgave me and is transforming me more into a true follower of Jesus.
