Jesus is Essential

John 2:9–12: When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!” This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him. After this He went down to Capernaum, He, His mother, His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days.

John here implies that life gets better as it goes on. “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.” Although the natural wines of life tend to lose their sparkle, the wine Christ gives—the joy we find in him—increases as life goes on. I have found this to be true. He is serving delicacies at my table now that I knew nothing of in my early years of Christian life. Jesus is always giving us something better, and our taste is constantly being refined. This is a promise of growth. 1

Walking with Jesus

Do you give Jesus your very best every day, or have you run out of the real thing?

And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Colossians 3:17

A tasteless vessel needs a miraculous filling from Jesus. – TWEET IT

Praying

Lord, thank you for letting me run out of myself, so I can be filled with You, once again.
