Proverbs 31:16: She considers a field and buys it; From her profits she plants a vineyard.

Insight

The wife’s considering and buying a field have caused some to question the validity of this poem because women, it is argued, were not permitted to do that in those days. However, in this wealthy household she apparently had money to invest. Then out of her earnings from various investments ( “trading” and “sells”) she plants a vineyard. She has a business mind and she works hard. 1

Application

So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God. Proverbs 2:2–5

If there were a million dollars buried in your backyard, how diligent would you be to dig until you found it? Would you have the same level of diligence and determination to dig into the Word of God and find the treasures that He has for you? Are you sowing the Word of God into your heart each day? How can the Word of God prosper your soul and your life?

Motivation

Buy the truth, and do not sell it, also wisdom and instruction and understanding. Proverbs 23:23

If you plan to purchase anything, purchase the things that will allow you to experience the truth that will set you free. – TWEET IT

Prayer

Father, teach me to invest in eternal things that last beyond this lifetime.
