Matthew 6:14–15: For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Jesus’ words explain His statement about forgiveness in verse 12. Though God’s forgiveness of sin is not based on one’s forgiving others, a Christian’s forgiveness is based on realizing he has been forgiven. Personal fellowship with God is in view in these verses (not salvation from sin). One cannot walk in fellowship with God if he refuses to forgive others. 1

Your Word is Truth

Our fellowship with God can be hindered by our unforgiveness towards others. David asked God to search his heart to find any wicked way in him. Would you consider praying that same prayer and responding to the Holy Spirit’s promptings?

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. –1 John 1:9

You Alone are God

Forgiveness is not forgiveness if there is still unforgiveness. – TWEET IT

Your Will be Done

Lord, thank You for Your patience with me. I need Your grace to do Your will.
