Matthew 5:5: Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.

Meekness is the opposite of self-will toward God, and of ill-will toward men. “The meek are those who quietly submit themselves before God, to His Word, to His rod, who follow His directions and comply with His designs, and are gentle toward men” (Matthew Henry). This is the precious fruit of the Spirit’s work. Godly sorrow softens the heart, so that it is made receptive to the entrance of the Word. Meekness consists in the spirit being made pliant, tractable, submissive, teachable. Speaking prophetically through Isaiah the Saviour said, “The Lord hath anointed Me to preach good tidings unto the meek” (Isaiah 1:1), for they have bowed to the authority of the Law. And again it is written, “For the Lord taketh pleasure to His people: He will beautify the meek with salvation” (Psalm 149:4). 1

Your Word is Truth

Meek is not a sign of weakness. Rather it is strength under the control of God. Is your life marked by meekness towards others, or by contention to be in control over matters that belong to others? Strength is found in surrender of your will for His.

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. –Matthew 11:29

Your Will be Done

Lord, thank You for teaching me about the “blessings” in Your Kingdom.
