Romans 1:10: Making request if, by some means, now at last I may find a way in the will of God to come to you.

Actually, Paul had a very perilous journey; and he arrived in Rome a prisoner as well as a preacher. When Paul wrote this letter, he had no idea that he would go through imprisonment and even shipwreck before arriving in Rome! At the close of the letter (Rom. 15:30–33), he asked the believers in Rome to pray for him as he contemplated this trip; and it is a good thing that they did pray! 1

Love is still as strong as death, and grace is still made perfect in weakness. This is as true to-day, as it was a thousand years ago. We may be weak in grace, but grace is not weak: it is still omnipotent, and able to endure the trying day. 2

Application

  • What is one heart felt prayer that you have about bringing the gospel to someone or someplace?
  • Are you willing to do God’s will, more than your own, even if it meant radically changing your lifestyle and even your planned career path?

Prayer

Lord, give me the boldness to bring your gospel to those who resist me the most.
