Revelation 2:21: And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent.

Jesus and His Word

They abused the patience of God to harden themselves in their wickedness. God gave them space for repentance, but they repented not. Observe, First, Repentance is necessary to prevent a sinner’s ruin. Secondly, Repentance requires time; it is a great work, and a work of time. Thirdly, Where God gives space for repentance, he expects the fruit from repentance. Fourthly, Where the space for repentance is lost, the sinner perishes with a double destruction. 1

Jesus and His Ways

  • Jesus, thank You for patiently leading me to brokenness and repentance. – “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9
  • Jesus, thank You for Your goodness, when I deserved Your judgement. – “Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?” Romans 2:4
  • Jesus, thank You for celebrating the forsaking of my sin and the seeking of my Savior. – “I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.” Luke 15:7
