Revelation 3:18a: I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich.

Jesus and His Word

Our blessed Lord, the counsellor, always gives the best advice. These people were poor; Christ counsels them to buy of Him gold tried in the fire, that they might be rich. Something indeed must be parted with, to make room for receiving true riches. Part with sin and self-sufficiency, and come to Christ with a sense of your poverty and emptiness, that you may be filled with His hidden treasure. 1

Jesus and His Ways

  • Jesus, thank You for being my Counselor. Please plant Your truth deep within the chambers of my heart, and may it never leave me. – “Buy the truth, and do not sell it, Also wisdom and instruction and understanding.” Proverbs 23:23
  • Jesus, thank You for being my Refiners Fire. Please burn away all the impurities from my life and refine me by Your holy fire. – “He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver; He will purify the sons of Levi, And purge them as gold and silver, That they may offer to the Lord An offering in righteousness.” Malachi 3:3
  • Jesus, thank You for being my Cornerstone. Please build Your life in me. Test me, try me, and prove me. Purify the motives of my heart. – “Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is.” 1 Corinthians 3:12–13

Jesus and His Promise

“That the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 1:7
