Proverbs 6:9–11: How long will you slumber, O sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep — so shall your poverty come on you like a prowler, and your need like an armed man.

Insight

By two questions Solomon urged the sluggard to get out of bed and start working. Verses 10–11, point up the danger of a person continuing to nap when he ought to be working: poverty will come on him suddenly in the same way a robber or an armed man quickly attacks an unsuspecting victim. Poverty is mentioned frequently in Proverbs. With his time squandered, the lazy person cannot rectify his situation, and has little or no money to meet his needs. Obviously such a person is unwise. 1

Application

It is very helpful to call out to Him for His mercy as each new day begins. He has a game plan for your life, but so do other people. Make it your aim to please Him. Confess your sins to Him. Share with Him your heart of discouragement. Let Him know that your failures are sinking you emotionally. Tell him you want to be more diligent, but you need a breakthrough from the pressures of life. He will speak to you, if you take time to listen. Open your heart to His grace right now. Say: “Jesus, please fill me with Your love and power. I need You!” He will answer that prayer today.

Motivation

No one can serve two masters; he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Matthew 6:24

The very things we desire are possible, when we yield to Him, as each new day begins. – TWEET IT

Prayer

Father, thank You for Your grace and strength each day, to do Your will, Your way.
