Proverbs 30:29–30: There are three things which are majestic in pace, Yes, four which are stately in walk: A lion, which is mighty among beasts And does not turn away from any;
Insight
The lion goes straight ahead and doesn’t detour. A lion is known for its unflinching boldness, and this should characterize the Christian as we earnestly contend for the faith. I think that the curse of the church today lies in pussyfooting preachers and mealymouthed deacons. It is said of Cromwell that he was a man without fear. When asked why, he said, “I have learned that when you fear God you have no man to fear.” General “Stonewall” Jackson, a Christian man, got his reputation, because one day in battle the men of General Cox were ready to retreat. General Cox looked over at him and then said to his men, “Look at General Jackson; he’s standing like a stone wall.” He was a man like a lion. That is the way the walk of the believer should be. 1
Application
But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. Acts 20:24
What is it that moves you away from your walk with Jesus? Are your choices about how you want to use your life more important than how God may want to use your life? How well are you running your race? Are you running with great joy or with a great burden? When was the last time you testified to the grace of God?
Motivation
“But now ask the beasts, and they will teach you.” Job 12:7
