Jesus is Essential

John 9:23–27: Therefore his parents said, “He is of age; ask him.” So they again called the man who was blind, and said to him, “Give God the glory! We know that this Man is a sinner.” He answered and said, “Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.” Then they said to him again, “What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?” He answered them, “I told you already, and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become His disciples?”

We admire the boldness of the man in asking those irate Pharisees if they wanted to follow Jesus! The man expected a negative answer, but he was courageous even to ask it. The Pharisees were cautious men who would consider themselves conservatives, when in reality they were “preservatives.”

A true conservative takes the best of the past and uses it, but he is also aware of the new things that God is doing. The new grows out of the old. A “preservative” simply embalms the past and preserves it. He is against change and resists the new things that God is doing. Had the Pharisees really understood Moses, they would have known who Jesus was and what He was doing. 1

Walking with Jesus

What is God using from your past to strengthen you each day? Is it your daily reading of the Word and prayer? Is it an online Bible study? What is the new work God is stirring in your heart? To lead a discipleship group? To go on a mission trip? To share the gospel? To serve others through a ministry at church?

The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe. Proverbs 29:25

God is glorified when we trust Him, and speak of our friendship with Him.

Praying

Lord, thank You for always being my daily manna from heaven.
