Psalm 143:1: Hear my prayer, O Lord, Give ear to my supplications! In Your faithfulness answer me, and in Your righteousness.

Experiencing Jesus in the Psalms

David appeals to the faithfulness and righteousness of God for an answer. Isn’t this exactly what believers are to do when they sin? “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). “He is faithful and just [or righteous].” Like David, we appeal to God on the basis of His faithfulness and His righteousness. This psalm is a very wonderful prayer, and it can fit into your experience and mine. 1

Living the Transformed Life

In You, O Lord, I put my trust; Let me never be ashamed; Deliver me in Your righteousness. Psalm 31:1

  • Pray now for your deliverance from the temptation to sin against God today. – “Deliver me in Your righteousness, and cause me to escape; Incline Your ear to me, and save me.” Psalm 71:2
  • Pray now for the salvation of a close friend or family member. – “He will redeem his soul from going down to the pit, and his life shall see the light.” Job 33:28
  • Pray now for the faith and perseverance to keep praying and to keep believing. – “Please let Your ear be attentive and Your eyes open, that You may hear the prayer of Your servant which I pray before You now, day and night.” Nehemiah 1:6

Every prayer, prayed in faith, goes before His throne of grace, and is never wasted.

Praise and Prayer

Thank You, Father, for Your continual faithfulness towards all Your children. Dear Jesus, please teach me to pray in faith to the Faithful One.
