Psalm 131:1–2: Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor my eyes lofty. Neither do I concern myself with great matters, nor with things too profound for me. Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother; Like a weaned child is my soul within me.

Experiencing Jesus in the Psalms

David affirmed that he had not been arrogant. Pride is essentially independence from and disobedience to God. The psalmist knew that he depended on the Lord. David then testified to his humility. His soul was not disturbed by selfish ambition and passion. He had stilled and silenced his soul. Like a weaned child, no longer wanting his mother’s milk, he was content. A mature believer leaves the clamor of proud ambition and rests in the Lord. 1

Living the Transformed Life

Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion. Romans 12:16

  • Learn from Jesus: Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:29
  • Live for Jesus: You are witnesses, and God also, how devoutly, justly & blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:10
  • Trust in Jesus: Why are you cast down, O my soul? Why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him for the help of His countenance. Ps 42:5

A quiet soul enjoys the solitude of being alone…with Him.

Praise and Prayer

Thank You, Father, for rescuing me from worldly chaos, and for bringing me to Yourself. Dear Jesus, teach me how to live in the stillness of Your presence.
