1 John 2:20: But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.

What John means here by “unction” is anointing. We have an anointing, and that is the anointing of the Holy Spirit. We are going to see this later in verse 27 where John says, “But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you.” “But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.” The Holy Spirit indwells every real believer and is able to reveal to him all things. “… Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit …” (1 Cor. 2:9–10) so that we have someone dwelling in us who can reveal to us these things which are in the Word of God. We have an anointing, and every person can have the assurance of his salvation. If you really want to do business with God, if you really want to get right down to the nitty–gritty with Him, come to Him, ask for light, ask for guidance, and ask for His assurance. 1

Loving Him

His anointing can be recognized in His servants. It is when the striving ceases and His grace is allowed to flow freely. It is when there is less of us and more of Him. It is a surrendered will to His Lordship. It is a power unlike the power the world offers. Pray for His anointing. Pray for your heart to surrender your will for His today.

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. John 14:26
