Jesus is Essential
Luke 10:1–6: After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go. Then He said to them, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves. Carry neither money bag, knapsack, nor sandals; and greet no one along the road. But whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on it; if not, it will return to you.
Harvesting is hard work, even when there are many people helping you, but these men were sent into a vast field with very few workers to help them reap a great harvest. Instead of praying for an easier job, they were to pray for more laborers to join them, and we today need to pray that same prayer. (Please note that it is laborers, not spectators, who pray for more laborers! Too many Christians are praying for somebody else to do a job they are unwilling to do themselves.) 1
Walking with Jesus
We all have work to do in the Body of Christ. It is what He has asked us to do. When we fail to respond, and are no longer faithful to fulfill His calling, someone else has to do the work He assigned to us. Serving His church is more than being a volunteer, it is being a grateful child who is joyfully serving their Father with abiding obedience.
Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. 2 Corinthians 5:20
The church is burdened by saved servants who refuse to serve their Savior.
Praying
Lord, please give me the heart of a harvester, and the will to harvest.
