John 21:7–8: Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he had removed it), and plunged into the sea. But the other disciples came in the little boat (for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits), dragging the net with fish.

John has a spiritual perception that Simon Peter doesn’t have. Three years before, Jesus had called them at perhaps the same spot. They had gone back to fishing and the Lord had called them again to fish for the souls of men. Peter may not have the discernment of John, but have you noticed that at every opportunity he gets close to the Lord? The other men sit in the boat and wait until they get to shore. Not Simon Peter. He can’t wait. He wants to be close to his Lord. 1

Your Word is Truth

If you are back living the same lifestyle as before you surrendered to Jesus, perhaps you should look at Him and your life more closely. Is there an emptiness in your life that only Jesus can satisfy? Are you willing to forsake your worldly securities and trust Him with everything, including your uncertain future? Please consider looking into His Word today, and don’t stop reading until you can say with renewed delight: “It is the Lord!”

You are my God, and I will praise You; You are my God, I will exalt You. Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. –Psalm 118:28–29

Your Will be Done

Lord, thank You for always revealing Yourself to me, no matter where I am, or how far away I have been.
