Jesus Christ, Son & Savior

Romans 1:3: Concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh.

Jesus Christ is the center of the Gospel message. Paul identified Him as a man, a Jew, and the Son of God. He was born of a virgin (Isa. 7:14; Matt. 1:18–25) into the family of David, which gave Him the right to David’s throne. 1

The word concerning is the little Greek preposition peri—used also in periscope and perimeter—and means “that which encircles.” The gospel is all about Jesus Christ. It is what He has done. It is “concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.” We have His full title here. He is the Son of God, and He is Jesus Christ our Lord. That is His wonderful name. 2

Application

  • Can Jesus Christ be your Savior if He was not born of a virgin?
  • Can Jesus Christ be your full-time Savior, but your part-time Lord?

Prayer

Make me a person of praise. Forgive my worries and complaints.
