John 4:51–54: And as he was now going down, his servants met him and told him, saying, “Your son lives!” Then he inquired of them the hour when he got better. And they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” And he himself believed, and his whole household. This again is the second sign Jesus did when He had come out of Judea into Galilee.
The nobleman’s faith was well rewarded. The Lord spoke only a few words to him, but in the little he said he took the man a million light-years ahead in his faith. The official had learned who Christ was, and he trusted fully in him. The more he reflected upon the circumstances, the more wonderful it all seemed. He became a convinced believer! Notice in verse 53 what happened when he got back to Capernaum: “So he and all his household believed.” There was an outburst of faith in Capernaum! When he returned he told his wife what had happened, recounting the details of the Lord’s words, and then she said to him, “My dear, if you believe, I want to believe too.” Even his servants believed. 1
