Luke 12:27–30: Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith? “And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things.

Worry loads the present with the weight of the future. And when you load the troubles you are anticipating upon the troubles you are presently experiencing, you give yourself an impossible burden. As George MacDonald wisely put it: “No man ever sank under the burden of the day. It is when tomorrow’s burden is added to the burden of today, that the weight is more than a man can bear.” 1

Your Word is Truth

Take time now to consider God’s creation that is before your very eyes. Who is controlling everything from gravity to those beautiful flowers? What worry can you surrender to Him who controls everything? Will you do it now?

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. –Matthew 6:34 (NKJV)

You Alone are God

Your Will be Done

Lord, please teach me to be free from the burdens of this world.
