The Life and Ministry of Jesus
But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!” And when the unclean spirit had convulsed him and cried out with a loud voice, he came out of him. Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.” And immediately His fame spread throughout all the region around Galilee. Mark 1:25–28
What we learn from Christ’s action is that his gospel of love and power is for all, even the least and the worst of us. Do you think yourself least likely? Know this: Jesus rejoices to change your life with a word. And he will if you will come to him. Will you?
The text considered in this chapter shows four new fishers of men under the authority of Christ. As time progressed, they put this authority to use in their lives. Think of Peter at Pentecost! He preached in the authority of Christ and in the power of the Holy Spirit, and thousands were changed. These four recruits saw the demoniac healed and came to see that he was a symbol of the great things God would do through them. 1
Personal Encouragement
What are you doing to spread the fame of Jesus throughout your community and with in your own family? Since Jesus has authority over the demonic world, how does that prove that He is the Creator over all things?
Hear my prayer, O God; Give ear to the words of my mouth. Psalm 54:2
The One who saved you is also the One who will deliver you from your sin.
A Prayer
Lord, thank You for Your indwelling presence inside of me. You are my deliver. Always.
