The Life and Ministry of Jesus
When they had come to Capernaum, those who received the temple tax came to Peter and said, “Does your Teacher not pay the temple tax?” He said, “Yes.” And when he had come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from strangers?” Peter said to Him, “From strangers.” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free. Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you.” Matthew 17:24–27
How the other disciples paid their taxes, we are not told. This was one of many miracles that Jesus performed for Peter. He healed Peter’s mother-in-law, helped Peter to catch fish, enabled him to walk on the water, healed Malchus’ ear, and delivered Peter from prison. Jesus knew Peter’s need and was able to meet that need. 1
Personal Encouragement
What is your greatest “need” right now? Are you convinced that Jesus wants to help you? What is the best way to ask for His help? Do you think He might want to direct others to help you on His behalf? Would you be willing to ask others for help?
Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
He desires to meet your needs, before you ever have a desire to ask Him.
A Prayer
Lord, thank You for always taking care of me in every situation.
