The Life and Ministry of Jesus
Now Jesus and His disciples went out to the towns of Caesarea Philippi; and on the road He asked His disciples, saying to them, “Who do men say that I am?” So they answered, “John the Baptist; but some say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ.” Then He strictly warned them that they should tell no one about Him. – Mark 8:27–30
Your confession concerning Jesus Christ is a matter of life or death. The citizens of Caesarea Philippi would say, “Caesar is lord!” That confession might identify them as loyal Roman citizens, but it could never save them from their sins and from eternal hell.
The only confession that saves us is “Jesus is Lord!” when that confession comes from a heart that truly believes in Him. 1
Personal Encouragement
How often do you publicly confess your allegiance to Christ? Why is it so easy to openly get behind a team with enthusiasm and support, but so difficult to show that same open loyalty to Christ and His church?
Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.” John 8:24
Salvation comes with confession; religion comes with performance.
A Prayer
Lord, help me to always say to others, “that You are the Christ and there is no other.”
