The Life and Ministry of Jesus
But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” Matthew 13:8–9
Nineteen times in Matthew 13 we find the word “hear.” The Parable of the Sower is found in the first three Gospels, and in each one, the closing admonition is different. It is important that we hear God’s Word, because “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” (Rom. 10:17).
Jesus said, “Who hath ears to hear” (Matt. 13:9), “Take heed what you hear!” (Mark 4:24), and “Take heed how you hear!” (Luke 8:18). 1
Personal Encouragement
Since faith comes by hearing, how much of God’s Word are you committed to hearing on a daily basis? How often do you share a promise from God’s Word to encourage someone else? Are you more hungry to listen to a talk show, than to hear from God through His Word?
Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Revelation 2:4
If your faith is weak, your intake of God’s Word is probably very weak.
A Prayer
Lord, thank You for never giving up on me. Please create a new appetite in me for Your Word. I want to hear from You and bear more fruit for Your glory.
