FAITH: Comes by Hearing the Word of God
Romans 4:13–15: For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise made of no effect, because the law brings about wrath; for where there is no law there is no transgression.
FAITH: Comes by Studying the Word of God
The key word here is “promise.” Abraham was justified by believing God’s promise, not by obeying God’s Law; for God’s Law through Moses had not yet been given. The promise to Abraham was given purely through God’s grace. Abraham did not earn it or merit it. So today, God justifies the ungodly because they believe His gracious promise, not because they obey His Law. The Law was not given to save men, but to show men that they need to be saved. 1
FAITH: Comes by Obeying the Word of God
Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. Galatians 3:24-25
Jesus, thank You for Your Holy law. I needed Your law to reveal my desperate need for forgiveness from all my sins. Your law made it clear that I was a sinner who could not save myself. Your law schooled me. I learned that my only hope for redemption was in Jesus Christ. His salvation was for me and for you and for the world.
FAITH: Comes by Experiencing the Transforming Work of God
Because the law served its purpose in me, I am now free to serve the serve Lord, freely. – TWEET IT
