Romans 1:22: Professing to be wise, they became fools,
Man was willing to use God’s gifts, but he was not willing to worship and praise God for His gifts. The result was an empty mind and a darkened heart. Man the worshiper became man the philosopher, but his empty wisdom only revealed his foolishness. 1
The Bible declares that the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord (Ps. 111:10). Authentic wisdom begins when the heart is disposed to adore and to revere God. So what happens to the person who refuses to give honor to God? He professes wisdom, but he possesses foolishness. There is no fool so tragic as the fool who thinks he is wise. 2
Application
- It is far better to possess humility than to profess wisdom.
- A wise person never speaks about their gift of wisdom, they just use it graciously.
Prayer
Lord, I pray that my fellowship with You would help me become more in awe of You.
