Romans 10:14: How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?

This passage is often used as the basis for the church’s missionary program, and rightly so, but its first application is to the nation of Israel. The only way unbelieving Jews can be saved is by calling on the Lord. But before they can call on Him, they must believe. For the Jew, this meant believing that Jesus Christ of Nazareth truly is the Son of God and the Messiah of Israel. It also meant believing in His death and resurrection (Rom. 10:9–10). 1

Application

  • We must call out to God for help. Do you believe that He is there for you?
  • A preacher is a proclaimer of truth. Perhaps you have never proclaimed the gospel truth to your loved ones. Can you be their preacher today?

Prayer

Lord, make me a preacher of grace and truth and love.
