Romans 6:18: And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.

We have been liberated. In other words, He has made it possible for us to live the Christian life. It does not mean that sin has been eradicated or removed. It does mean that now we can live for God. 1

This is positional and must be manifested in daily experience, but it demonstrates again that there is no middle ground. Christians are not to give in to sin because they are dead to it and no longer slaves of it. It is totally contrary to God’s plan for slaves of righteousness to become enslaved to sin!2

Application

  • What does it take for someone to consider themselves to be a slave for Jesus?
  • Would you consider that to be a negative or positive pursuit? If you’re not a slave to Jesus, then whose slave would you be?

Prayer

Lord, teach me how to live honorably and humbly as your slave.
