Romans 8:4: That the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

He condemned sin in his flesh “in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.” The Holy Spirit creates a new humanity which is characterized by walking “according to the Spirit.” This new humanity, through its union with Christ, whose flesh never sinned, is infused with the power to live in a way that is pleasing to God. Everything the Law required is now realized in the lives of those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit. The principle of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set us free from the principle of sin and death. Thus when we yield to the power of the Holy Spirit, we are liberated. We no longer have to sin. 1

Application

  • Before you were saved, you had no choice to be liberated from the demands of sin, because you were a slave to sin.
  • Since salvation, you now have a daily choice to walk in the Spirit. This Holy power from God gives you the strength (which is His strength) to resist sin and truly be liberated from the demands of the law and from the power of sin.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for abiding with me. Because You live in me, I can live for You!
