Romans 1:20: For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.
This universe in which you and I live tells two things about God: His person and His power. This has been clearly seen from the time the world was created. How can invisible things be seen? Paul makes this a paradox purposely to impress upon his readers that the “dim light of nature” is a man–made falsehood. Creation is a clear light of revelation. It is the primary revelation. The psalmist said, “When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained” (Ps. 8:3). Also “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handiwork” (Ps. 19:1). 1
The truth is, it takes a concerted act of the will to deny that a vastly powerful God made and sustains the Creation. If one is not at least searching after God, he or she is suppressing the truth. The first distinctive of the anatomy of unbelief, then, is the suppression of the truth. The second is a perversion of the truth. 2
Application
- What evidence is there for the existence of God from creation?
- Does anyone have a legitimate excuse for not believing in God?
Prayer
Lord, thank you that Your creation reveals Your greatness all day, everyday.
