Romans 3:27–28: Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.
When it comes to salvation, boasting is unthinkable. Everything is of God. This is a call for humility, and humility paves the way for the exhilarating, infinite grace of God to deluge our bankrupt human hearts and bring us life. This is where all who are without Christ must begin. They must put down their pride and boasting and come with empty hands that they might receive this radical, true righteousness. 1
To be justified without works is to be justified without anything in ourselves to merit justification. 2
Application
- The only thing left to boast about is the grace and the goodness of God.
- Why did God decided to “declare you righteous?”
Prayer
Lord, help me to experience the reality of your declaration of being justified, every day in my heart and mind.
