Romans 2:13: For not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified.
I hear it said that the heathen are lost because they haven’t heard of Christ and haven’t accepted Him. My friend, they are lost because they are sinners. That’s the condition of all mankind. Men are not saved by the light they have; they are judged by the light they have. “For not the hearers of the law are just before God”—many folk seem to think that if they just approve the Sermon on the Mount, they are saved. 1
God does not give eternal life or justification to those who perform good works, but to those who believe (trust) in Him and whose conduct reveals their regenerate hearts. 2
Application
- If faith comes from hearing the Word of God, how much time do you actually give each day to reading the Word of God? How much time to listening to godlessness?
- Would you be considered a person with good intentions or good actions?
Prayer
Lord, will you please give me a greater hunger to read your word with greater faithfulness.
