Romans 9:6–8: But it is not that the word of God has taken no effect. For they are not all Israel who are of Israel, nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but, “In Isaac your seed shall be called.” That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed.

You will recall what the Jews said to the Lord Jesus on one occasion, “… Abraham is our father. Jesus said unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.” Then the Lord continued saying, “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it” (John 8:39, 44). 1

Application

  • Just because you were born in a Christian home, that does not automatically make you a Christian. Do not confuse your natural heritage with your spiritual heritage.
  • A spiritual life requires a spiritual birth. Jesus said that in order to be a child of God one must be born again. (John 3:1-3)

Prayer

Lord, thank You that Your Word, the Seed of Life, has been planted in my soul.
