Proverbs 23:6–8: Do not eat the bread of a miser, nor desire his delicacies; For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, but his heart is not with you. The morsel you have eaten, you will vomit up, and waste your pleasant words.

Insight

A couple used certain things that I had said about a personal friend of mine. I was just kidding, because I love that man. He is my brother in the Lord, and we play golf together. He said to me, “What in the world are you saying about me?” I told him, and he laughed. He said, “Those people took what you said and gave it a twist.” But he said that he had been over to see them and had said something about me that would be coming back to me. And it did! He kids me too, and they had twisted what he had said about me. When you are invited out to dinner, make sure that you know the people with whom you are to dine. They may not be as cordial as you think they are. 1

Application

Consider the twisted words that were spoken about Jesus in John 10:20:

And many of them said, “He has a demon and is mad. Why do you listen to Him?”

Since Jesus, the spotless Lamb of God, had these kind of things said about Him, there will also be twisted words spoken about you. The devil wants to defeat you using the twisted words of others. Resist this nonsense. Give no place for it in your mind. Do not wrestle with it in your emotions. Believe the truth of God’s words, and not the lies of others. Memorize His Word, and forget the twisted words of others.

Motivation

Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure. 1 Corinthians 4:12

Since you are accountable to God for every word, think before speaking. – TWEET IT

Prayer

Father, draw me near to You, that I may know Your truth, and speak Your truth.
