Proverbs 23:29–35: Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaints? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? Those who linger long at the wine, Those who go in search of mixed wine. Do not look on the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it swirls around smoothly; At the last it bites like a serpent, And stings like a viper. Your eyes will see strange things, And your heart will utter perverse things. Yes, you will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea, Or like one who lies at the top of the mast, saying: “They have struck me, but I was not hurt; They have beaten me, but I did not feel it. When shall I awake, that I may seek another drink?”

Insight

Is anything too hard for the Lord? May his name be praised for a full deliverance from the enslavement to sin—to all sins and to every individual sin—and even from the chains of this giant sin. The drunkard becomes sober, the unclean holy, the glutton temperate. The love of Christ overpowers the love of sin. 1

Application

Jesus, your deliverer, has extended a personal invitation to you in Luke 11:9:

“So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”

Only He can change a life, a marriage, a family, and a future. Will you ask Him to be your Deliverer today? He will lead you into victory!

Motivation

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank. Daniel 1:8

When you seek Jesus with all your heart, you abstain from worldly pleasures. – TWEET IT

Prayer

Father, I could never pursue You on my own, I need all of Your grace to make it.
