Proverbs 8:19–21: My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold, and my revenue (yield) than choice silver. I traverse the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of justice, that I may cause those who love me to inherit wealth, that I may fill their treasuries.
Insight
The word yield (v. 19) is a term used in the marketplace; the verb focuses attention on wisdom’s ability to produce benefits far superior to what fine gold and silver provide. Wisdom goes with righteousness and justice. The form of the Hebrew verb walk conveys the idea of walking steadily or continuously. As in many places in Proverbs, way (s) and paths are used synonymously. Those who love and acquire wisdom gain wealth. Like many statements in Proverbs, this one is a generalization to which exceptions should be noted. Material substance is replenishable (keeping one’s treasuries full) because of the skill a wise person has to maintain it. 1
Application
Wiersbe said: “How do we secure this satisfying and enduring wealth? Hear the Word of God (v. 6), receive instruction (v. 10), love truth and wisdom (vv. 17, 21), and seek God and His wisdom daily (v. 17). God’s people have discovered how important it is to start each day, meditating on His Word, praying and worshiping Him.”
Motivation
Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed. Mark 1:35
