Proverbs 3:7–8: Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.

Insight

Young people who acquire wisdom need to remember that they did not become wise by themselves; wisdom comes from God. A heart awareness of and proper response to God (fear the Lord) help prevent the evil of pride. As a result God gives health and vigor. Health in one’s bones, suggests, as is well known today, that spiritual and physical health are related. 1

Application

Romans 12:16 declares: “do not be wise in your own opinion.” Then in James 1:5 the Bible states: “if anyone lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally.” God invites us to depend upon Him for everything. But He also warns us against acting with an independent spirit. Dependency with humility is very pleasing in His sight. How well is that combination working in your life today?

Motivation

Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest! John 4:35

Prayer

Father, thank You for allowing situations that deflate me and exalt You.
