Proverbs 20:7: The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him.

Insight

Christian parents, we must let blamelessness, as before God, be the general characteristic of our family religion. Do not live by the maxims of the world, and do not allow your children to walk in that way. Let us make God’s Word, his whole Word, our universal rule. We must make his ways, no matter how much they may be despised, our daily guide. Let us seek first, for our children as well as for ourselves, God’s kingdom and his righteousness. Then surely it will be true that your children will be blessed and their names found in the secret records of heaven, linked with the prayerful faith and love of their parents. 1

Application

The psalmist also explains how to walk in a way that pleases the Lord and is a blessing to others in Psalm 15:1–3: “Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill? He who walks uprightly, And works righteousness, And speaks the truth in his heart; He who does not backbite with his tongue, Nor does evil to his neighbor, Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend.”

Notice these six things that can forge your future and build a solid family heritage. Will you take a few minutes and pray for these important character qualities to become a new or renewed pursuit in your life?
