Jesus is Essential

John 19:34–37: But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe. For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled, “Not one of His bones shall be broken.” And again another Scripture says, “They shall look on Him whom they pierced.”

John saw a special significance to the blood and water that came from the wound in the side. It proved that Jesus had a real body and experienced a real death. By the time John wrote this book, there were false teachers in the church claiming that Jesus did not have a truly human body. There may also be a symbolic meaning: the blood speaks of our justification, the water of our sanctification and cleansing.

The blood takes care of the guilt of sin; the water deals with the stain of sin. In 1 John 5, John deals with evidence that Jesus Christ is God come in the flesh; and he presents three witnesses: the Spirit, the water, and the blood (1 John 5:6, 8). The Spirit relates to Pentecost, the water to His baptism, and the blood to His crucifixion. 1

Walking with Jesus

Are you struggling with doubt? Are you feeling weak in faith? Are you overwhelmed by all destructive events happening week after week? Let us renew our heart in His truth. #1 God is in complete control. #2 He is with us in “the eye” of every storm. #3 He will not forsake us or leave us. #4 He has chosen us to represent Him in these difficult days. #5 He predicted that these would be the final days and we should remain strong and steadfast. #6 Let us put our complete hope in His promises and not in our opinion.

But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name. John 20:31

The Pierced One knows the pain when your heart is pierced by others.

Praying

Lord, help my remaining days on earth to be my most fruitful, to the glory of God.
