Jesus is Essential
Matthew 2:16–18: Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men. Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying: “A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, Refusing to be comforted, Because they are no more.”
Greatness and riches are a perilous possession for the soul. Those who seek to have them do not know what they seek. They lead people into many temptations. They are likely to fill the heart with pride. Do we envy the rich and great? Does our heart sometimes say, “Oh, that I had their place, and rank, and wealth?”
Let us beware of giving way to such feelings. The very wealth which we admire may be gradually sinking its possessors down into hell. A little more money might be our ruin. Like Herod, we might run into every excess of wickedness and cruelty. 1

Listen to your words.
Observe your emotions.
They will reveal the condition of your heart.
Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5
Unchecked anger will inflame you, then it will destroy the ones you love. – TWEET IT
Praying
Lord, forgive me for not confessing the sin of anger, for it has often blinded me.
