Psalm 27:1: The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?

Experiencing Jesus in the Psalms

Salvation finds us in the dark, but does not leave us there. After conversion our God is in every sense our light. The powers of darkness are not to be feared, for the Lord, our light, destroys them; and the damnation of hell is not to be dreaded by us, for the Lord is our salvation. This is a very different challenge from that of boastful Goliath, for it is based on a very different foundation. It rests on the real power of the omnipotent I AM. The Lord is the strength of my life. Our life derives all its strength from him who is the author of it; and if he deigns to make us strong we cannot be weakened by all the schemes of the adversary. Of whom shall I be afraid? The bold question looks into the future as well as the present. “If God be for us,” who can be against us? 1

Living the Transformed Life

Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. Psalm 56:3

  • Whenever I am afraid, I will read and believe Psalm 118:6: The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?
  • Whenever I am afraid, I will read and believe Proverbs 29:25: The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe.
  • Whenever I am afraid, I will read and believe Isaiah 41:10: Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

To be ruled by fear is a choice, to be ruled by faith is a much better choice.

Praise and Prayer

Thank You, Father, for being my light, strength, and my victory over fear. Dear Jesus, please help me put to memory these verses about fear.
