Psalm 74:4: Your enemies roar in the midst of Your meeting place; They set up their banners for signs.
Experiencing Jesus in the Psalms
This is prophetic of that terrible invasion by the forces of Antiochus Epiphanes. (He was a Syrian, in the family of one of the four generals who divided up the empire of Alexander the Great after his death). In 175 b.c. he plundered Jerusalem, profaned the temple by pouring the broth of a sow all over the holy vessels, and placed an image of Jupiter in the holy place. This was called the abomination of desolation in Daniel 8. In a.d. 70 the destruction of Titus the Roman who profaned the temple and leveled it to the ground was also a fulfillment. There will be further fulfillment of Asaph’s prophecy after the temple is rebuilt. During the Tribulation the final abomination of desolation will be revealed which will profane the holy place. In spite of all of this persecution and discouragement a godly remnant will say: For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth [Ps. 74:12]. 1
Living the Transformed Life
“When you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel.” Matthew 24:15
- Jesus spoke of the destruction of Jerusalem…and it happened.
- Jesus spoke of that Israel would be back in their homeland…and it has happened.
- Jesus spoke of the rebuilding of a new temple which will be defiled by the anti-Christ during the tribulation…and it will happen very soon.
To live life without a heart for prophecy, is to live life with a blind ignorance.
Praise and Prayer
Thank You Father for faithfully revealing the future in advance. Dear Jesus, please teach me to live life in great expectancy of Your soon return.
