2 Corinthians 1:12–14: For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience that we conducted ourselves in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God, and more abundantly toward you. For we are not writing any other things to you than what you read or understand. Now I trust you will understand, even to the end (as also you have understood us in part), that we are your boast as you also are ours, in the day of the Lord Jesus.

“Our testimony” means our manner of life in the world. Paul says that he can rejoice because of the testimony of his life. He makes it clear that it was not by “fleshly wisdom.” And, my friend, it is not by our wisdom that our lives are a testimony to those around us. If we have been a testimony for God, it is because we have lived our lives in “simplicity and godly sincerity.” Paul is saying that by God’s grace suffering has produced this in his life. You see, suffering is a mercy of God, and it produces qualities in our lives that are to be shared. My friend, if today you are on a bed of pain, and you are in the will of God, that bed can become a greater pulpit than the one preachers stand behind. 1
