1 Corinthians 9:19: For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more;

His motive was to win as many as possible—or the greater number, the majority. No one was more yielding than this apostle in matters of no intrinsic importance, and no one was more unyielding in matters of principle. So long as things of no intrinsic importance were regarded as such, he was ready to accommodate himself to the most unreasonable prejudices; but when they were insisted on as matters of necessity, he would not give way, even for a moment. 1

Application

  • Read Galatians 2:1-5. What is meant by the “truth of the gospel?”
  • What is the liberty in Christ that religious people are so afraid of?
