Romans 5:8: But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

It is unnatural to think that one person would volunteer to die for another, even if that person was good or righteous. But who would die for an enemy? At the time when we were still powerless to help ourselves—strapped to the executioner’s block, guilty as charged, about to die—Jesus Christ stepped forward and took the place of us, his enemies! In a godless culture, “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” is a valid question. But in God’s world, in Paul’s day and in ours, love has everything to do with it. 1

He died for you and me. That is where God revealed His love. And God doesn’t save us by love. He now saves us by grace because the guilt of sin has been removed by the death of Christ, and He can hold out His arms and save you today. 2

Application

  • Are you as patience with other people’s sins as God is with yours?
  • Since Christ was willing to die for us, should we be willing to die to self?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your continual demonstration of love in my life.
