Jesus is Essential
John 14:28–31: You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I. “And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe. I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me. But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, so I do. Arise, let us go from here.
He tells them they should rejoice that He is going away because of the wonderful blessings that will come to them. Jesus Christ was going back to the Father and then He would send the Comforter to them. He tells them He cannot walk and talk very much more with them, and He didn’t—in a few hours He would be arrested and His disciples scattered.
The prince of this world was coming. Jesus Christ would have another siege with Satan, which I believe took place in the Garden of Gethsemane. After that, He would go to the Cross for the sins of the world. After His ascension, the Comforter would come to indwell believers. 1
Walking with Jesus
Do you know more about this worldly system, or more about the Word of God? If 100 people own a Bible, perhaps only 15 read it with any consistency. The only way to know God is to know His Word. Will you consider dedicating more time to Him and His Word?
But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. 2 Corinthians 4:3–4
Just as certain as His departure was to heaven, so certain is His coming return.
Praying
Lord, thank You for teaching me how to love, because of Your love for the Father.
