Jesus is Essential
John 14:5–6: Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Thomas did not understand, and in verse 5 he asked (probably speaking for all the disciples), “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus responded with one of his most-quoted statements: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” The troubled heart needs to remember that Jesus Christ is everything.
He is “the way and the truth and the life.” Jesus’ encouraging words came just before the cross, and there we find further comfort, not only in its saving power, but in its demonstration of divine love. And it is Christ’s love that sees us through this troubled world. We all have repeated experiences of life falling in on us. But Christ always says to us in the darkness, “Do not let your hearts be troubled.” How? “Trust in God; trust also in me.” Specifically, this is a command to believe in the substance of verse 6: “I am the way and the truth and the life.” He invites us to remember that he is coming to take us to be with him, and that will be healing medicine for our troubled hearts. 1
Walking with Jesus
There is no secret way into heaven. It is only through Jesus Christ. In this day of great tolerance of everything but truth, stay strong and stand strong on this verse. Never compromise the truth for a lie in order to accommodate someone’s feelings.
Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
Heaven is exclusively for those who know that Jesus is the way, truth & life.
Praying
Lord, thank You for making a way for me to know truth and life.
